The Art of Design
Do you like to design things? If you are creative and inventive, you can turn the marvelous thoughts bouncing around in your head into real objects. In this workshop we will talk about the design process, demonstrate clay sculpting, draw sketches, and make a finger casting.

Expect the Unexpected
Hands-on exploration of Basic and Advanced skills performed by Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics. It's the participant's turn to attempt full spinal immobilization (strap a friend to a board), intubation (place a breathing tube in the manikin), intraosseous cannulation (drill into a fake bone to give fluids to a "patient"), and learn about many other emergency procedures used on a 9-1-1 call.

Discover Careers in Engineering
This is a mandatory session for all students. There are a wide variety of career opportunities in the engineering field. During this session we will show and discuss some of the engineering opportunities available at Penn College. This discussion will include how everyday life is connected to engineering, how to prepare for the field, and what jobs are available in this field.

Hybrid Vehicles and the Future of Automotive Service Technology
Participants will be exposed to late model hybrid technology with an emphasis on the technology that will allow vehicle manufacturers to meet the stringent Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) that will be mandated by 2025. Students who want to prepare for a career in the automotive diagnosis and repair industry should attend.

Simulation in Nursing

Plastics Department Tour and Showcase
Tour the various labs available to students who enroll in the Plastics programs. There will be an overview of several different career opportunities available to graduates of our program with examples around the emerging fields of composite sporting equipment manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, additive manufacturing, and rapid prototyping. Giveaways will include our in house made keychain and flying disk.

IT: Explore Program Development
This session will introduce students to careers in IT, specifically those involving program development. Exploring the Health Information Profession

Name the Bone
Students will have the chance to look at and hold different types of bones. They will get to guess the names of these bones in a friendly contest against their peers. The student who has the most correct answers will win a small prize. They will then proceed into the X-ray lab to take exposures of multiple objects.

Surgical Technology

Animation of Objects Using Industrial Application Software
This seminar will provide students with concepts on making and animating an object in windows using industrial application software. There will be discussion on the Human-Machine Interface (similar to touchscreen and web page ordering), the future of this technology and its opportunities. The Human-Machine Interface application will be discussed and industrial software will be used to control and monitor a live automation process. Students will enjoy creating objects and changing their objects size, color, and visibility.

Engineering Design is CADtastic!!!!
The profession of Engineering Design can be fantastic... or perhaps we should call it CADtastic!!! Students in this workshop will engineer a part using CAD software and learn how additive manufacturing (rapid prototyping) equipment can replicate a physical model of their design.

Is 3D Printing the Future of Manufacturing?
We will take a close look at how 3D printing machines work and the kinds of things that can be made with them. At each session you can experiment with designing your own custom product, such as an action figure, or take a picture of your 2D drawing and turn it into a 3D object ready to print. We will even have special 3D "pens" that write with plastic. We will also demonstrate 3D scanning methods, even some that can be done with a smart phone these days.

Disaster Preparedness - Are You Ready?
How to survive for a few days to a few weeks on your own. Learn how to create an evacuation and shelter plan for you and your family and know the best way to avoid harm. This topic will also include what to expect from your local and emergency responders and what should be expected from government agencies during and after an emergency or disaster.

Landscape Design Using Computers

Food and Refrigeration
During this demonstration we will be discussing how perishable food is delivered to the grocery store. We will also be running a Carrier Refrigeration unit and the students will have some hands on time adjusting the temperatures on the unit.

Basketball Grab
Each participant will have the opportunity to learn about the New Holland Excavator, including safety practices and controls. Participants will then have the opportunity to go one-on-one with the machine by picking up basketballs from construction cones and slam dunking them in a trash can.

Load Bank a Power Generator
Power Generators provide back up electrical power for buildings when the power goes out. Watch as we attach a load bank to a power generator and run it under full load to simulate the Power going out.

A Taste of Technology: Sweet and Savory Science.
Three minute frozen desserts. Learn about the world of culinary foams and techniques. Watch Ice cream being made by using Liquid Nitrogen in under two minutes and sponge cakes baked in forty seconds using the principles of culinary foams. Help prepare a plated dessert.

Build a 3D Model of a House
Join us as we build a 3D computer model of a house using Sketchup. Each student will use a computer to generate their own 3D house, complete with doors, windows, walls, roof, and finishing materials.
